Essent uses the Eliq Energy Insights platform to support 2.5 million households in the Netherlands

Gothenburg, Sweden, 30th of September, 2024 – Essent gives customers more insight and therefore control over their energy consumption.

Essent, the largest energy supplier in The Netherlands, is revolutionising its customer experience by joining forces with Eliq, experts in energy data. This strategic collaboration underscores Essent’s commitment to supporting its customers and empowering them to monitor, track, and manage their energy usage effectively. The Dutch operating entity of the globally recognised energy company E.ON, plays a pivotal role in the Netherlands’ energy landscape with its two prominent brands, “Essent” and “Energie Direct,” collectively serving over 2.5 million customers.

Essent has integrated the Eliq Insights API to equip its entire customer base with advanced energy-saving features such as similar home comparisons, a comprehensive breakdown of energy usage into categories, and personalised energy-saving tips. The solution will be available to all households in the Essent customer base, independent of whether they have smart- or conventional meters.

Essent provides insights and makes saving easy

In its contact with customers, Essent notices that customers have difficulty understanding how their energy consumption works, which makes targeted savings complicated.

“Essent sees that the energy world is becoming increasingly complex and feels responsible for making energy easier for customers. Many people now know how much energy they use per month, but do not always know exactly where they can save,” says Henriette Setz, Director of Operations at Essent.

The Essent app offers a solution for this. The energy consumption of customers is broken down into different device groups, such as heating, cooling and standby consumption. Based on these insights, customers receive personalised saving tips. Setz continues:

“By gaining more insight into energy consumption, you can gain more control over your energy consumption and ultimately your energy bill through smart and simple saving tips. In this way, we help customers to save energy directly in an easy way.”

For example, by seeing how much standby consumption there is, customers can also take targeted steps to reduce energy waste. During autumn and winter, energy consumption usually increases due to the more intensive use of heating and lighting. With the cold weather approaching, this new solution comes at a crucial time.
